Today I finished Book One,
Awakenings by Kat Loveland. Overall I enjoyed the first book. It's about 180 pages; the second book is much longer. For me, the beginning was interesting, it caught my attention; a group of young adults save this girl, Sarah, and her brother from being kidnapped because of her special abilities. Sarah can change the molecular structure of any item and can heal people. The group that saves her and her brother all have different abilities. Then the middle was kind of boring for me. It revolves around a fashion show that 2 of the people have to attend. I kind of felt it was unnecessary, but I can also see why the author included it.

But the last 3 chapters of this book was my favorite. This is where we see the group really in action. We see them on a mission from beginning to end and I think it really helps give a better idea of who they are as a group. It was the most action packed part of the book and I really enjoyed it. I hope the second book has more of this kind of action.
I only have one other small thing that bothered me. I felt that because there are so many characters it is hard to
really get to know them. I think the author is really trying to get the reader in their mind and really get a sense of who they are but I feel since she is focusing on all of them they don't the amount of time they all need to give us a proper feel of who they are. Maybe it will be better in the next book, but I really wanted more about the characters. I felt I got more of a generalization. I want more of their pasts and their reactions. They all seem almost to relaxed sometimes. But like I said, it could be better in the next book since it is longer and there is more room for that kind of thing.
I would also like to take this chance to thank Kat Loveland for sending me the novel. I won this book in a goodreads.com giveaway.
Devon,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you are enjoying the books. In answer to your questions, you get to find out more about the characters in Book 2, there will be another fight scene and since the fashion part is not your favorite I will tell you the actual show takes place in Book 2. There is a reason for it as it shows John and Clara on their home turf so to speak and the build up for it reveals certain things about Min-Ji and where she is on her journey. It's also a break from the things that occur before hand.
I am so glad you are enjoying it and I look forward to seeing what you think of Sacrifices! Kat
